Check out these clips from Comic Con. Many thanks to Bionic Bunny for the link.
Apparently leaflets, like the one in this picture (left), were handed out at the San Diego Comic Con. A member at Bionic Woman Central posted the leaflet, which contains a link to a website: Ethical Bionics Org So, like any good Bionic Woman enthusiast, I visited the site and had a look around. I have to say it’s a well put together site and it contains some very interesting stuff that I can see tying in with the show itself.
In a nutshell the site, owned by ‘The Centre For Ethical Bionics’ or TCB, warns us that Bionic research and implementation should be responsible and ethical. It also suggests that there exists unethical Bionic experimentation, sometimes without prior consent of the individual (think Jaime Sommers), and that this crosses the line of ‘Bionic Ethics’. Another apparent message is that the distingtion between man and machine should be maintained.
Aparently the world of Bionics has a dark and seedy unworld. I actually think this is a facinating concept and one which could capture the imagintion and interest of the audience. Heroes made the evolution of mankind ’accessible’ to a whole group of fans by going down the genetic powers route..perhaps bionic Woman can do similar by going down the Bionic research route?
Is the site official? I’m not sure..it looks like one of those sites that ABC put together to help theme ‘Lost’s’ ’Lost Experience’ last summer. So I think NBC could well be giving us some material in this way over the next few weeks and months. It’s certainly a thumbs up for them if they are, as things like this will really help the show to connect with the fans and give the show another dimension. Ive long said that TV Networks should learn to better utilise the web – The hype surrounding Lost and Heroes was practically born on the Web and grew leg’s from the fans energy and early commitment to it. This sort of pre-show promoting can only be good. No word yet on whether it is an official site, but I’ll let you know as soon as I find out more.
In the meantime why not check the site. If you register you’ll be sent a ‘thankyou’ email and by the looks of it, you’ll receive stuff from the site over the course of the next few weeks. Needless to say, ive registered with them (costs nothing and takes 30 seconds) and i’ll keep you posted if I receive any interesting stuff. Likewise if any of you out there have any Bionic Woman information that you’d like to share, please send them in to info@bionic-blog.com – that way we can spread the word and keep other fans and potential fans in the loop.
As some of you may know, ‘Comic Con’(the convention that can literally make or break a show, it seems), has been and gone for this year. All reports suggest that it was insane (in a good way), unfortunately yours truly couldn’t be there, however check out the following links for some excellent coverage of how Bionic Woman performed at the event.
Joe from I Am A TV Junkie, comments on the ‘dark’ themes of BW:
I have no problem with the dark storyline, it draws me to the thing, in fact. What I have a problem with is how dark the show is; Jaime works in a dance club (dark), the underground lab where they reconstruct her is underground (dark), Jaime and Sarah have their knock-down, drag-out on a roof in the rain at night (also dark), A little contrast would be nice and would serve to punch up the drama of the dark.
I agree with that – the pre-air Pilot episode that I saw was extremely one-tone. Infact the only time I really noticed any daylight was during what seemed to be a continuity error after Jaime strolled back from her face-off with Corvis. I do hope they mix it up a little. I’d actually love them to use ‘Heroes’ style colour/contrast to their scenes, it would make it alot more vivid.
Meanwhile, Daniel, from tvaddict.com did a nice write-up of the Bionic Woman Panel, which included some info on the structure of the episodes:
Smilovic explains that every episode will be self-contained, but naturally there will be a continuous mythology woven throughout the season. Pretty much an on-the-fence answer to ensure everybody tunes in all the time.
A clever answer by Smilovc, though I do hope this is the case because it should make the series more accessible, both to the hardcore fans and casual viewers – and we’ll need those casual viewers if this show is to get a second season.
That’s about it for now – please do visit those links for more Bionic/Comic Con info and let’s hope that Bionic Woman is at next years event.
