Michelle Ryanrecently did an interview with the UK’s GMTV. In the interview she denies any relationship with Owen Wilson (glad I didn’t bother blogging about it!) – she hasn’t even met the man, she also talks about the ‘Bionic Woman’, how much she is enjoying it and her excitement that it will be airing in the UK (amongst other things). Have a look:

Did anyone else get the feeling that the show will almost definitely be back if the writers strike ends soon!? Not only did Michelle pretty much infer that it ‘depends on what happens’ regarding the strike, but her vibes were ‘positive’, if you know what I mean? She spoke about the show in the present tense and seemed fairly open in her responses. I think that she may have been told that if the writers strike ends before the New Year, then the show will be back. I mean, why else would NBC be so tight-lipped on the shows future? There’s no reason for them to remain silent UNLESS they were waiting for the length of the strike to become clearer. So there you have it, I think that the series will continue (or be relaunched) IF the strike ends soon. I could be wrong of course.

One of our readers - Tippy, has informed me that last night ITV2 (the channel which has bought exclusive rights for Bionic Woman in the UK) aired a 15 second trailer for the Michelle Ryan led drama. It featured a close up of Jaime Sommers’ eye and clips from the Pilot episode, before ending with “Bionic Woman: 2008″.

So, it looks as if the writers strike and the lagging ratings haven’t deterred ITV from showing BW..or from terminating their contract with NBC and getting their money back – although I’m not sure if that would have been possible at this stage anyway?

What is also interesting is that ITV are aware that the show might not even complete it’s projected 13 episode season and yet they are still prepared to air the 8 guaranteed episodes regardless. Indeed, the UK’s Guaradian Newspaper expressess the same point:

ITV, which bought big from America for the second year running – snapping up Bionic Woman, the quirky Pushing Daisies and the campy family saga Cane – now faces the prospect of half-completed seasons of what they hoped would be next year’s biggest dramas.

I guess ITV are unable to get out of their contract and so they’re going to try to get their money’s worth? Of course the show might actually return after the writers strike and it could even be “relaunched”, but as things stand it’s a fairly bold move by ITV and even if their motives are money oriented (can’t blame them really), it’s good to see some faith being invested in the show. Although if ‘Brit chick’ Michelle Ryan wasn’t starring, I don’t think they’d be as ‘supportive’.
