Can’t wait for NBC’s ‘Bionic Woman’ to hit our screens? ..yeah, neither can I! However something which might alleviate the unbearable wait is this news I received in my mailbox today:
Blockbuster began offering a promotional DVD from NBC which has the pilots of Chuck, Journeyman and Life, along with a 2-minute preview for Bionic Woman. The DVD is available in stores and through Blockbuster’s direct mail service until October 21.
The DVD doesn’t contain the full version of the Bionic Woman Pilot but it might help to tide you over until the show premieres on Sept. 26th. Also, for those of you who are still undecided about whether or not the show is for you, it’s well worth checking out as it will give you as taste of things to come!
The DVD is FREE - so hats off to NBC for not only giving their shows (especially Bionic Woman) more exposure but for also giving the fans (and potential fans) something to get stuck into whilst we count down the days. The other day I complained about the lack of promo images that NBC had released - and as if by magic they have now released some fresh images for our Bionic eyes to savour (not that i’m claiming credit, but i’ll take what I can get;))! The images are taken from Episode 1.02 and they feature Jaime Sommers, Antonio Pope, Jonas Bledsoe and Jae Kim! However they’re spoilery, so i’ll post them over at the Spoilers Section. If you don’t mind spoilers then go check em out, cos they kinda rock!

Apparently leaflets, like the one in this picture (left), were handed out at the San Diego Comic Con. A member at Bionic Woman Central posted the leaflet, which contains a link to a website: Ethical Bionics Org So, like any good Bionic Woman enthusiast, I visited the site and had a look around. I have to say it’s a well put together site and it contains some very interesting stuff that I can see tying in with the show itself.
In a nutshell the site, owned by ‘The Centre For Ethical Bionics’ or TCB, warns us that Bionic research and implementation should be responsible and ethical. It also suggests that there exists unethical Bionic experimentation, sometimes without prior consent of the individual (think Jaime Sommers), and that this crosses the line of ‘Bionic Ethics’. Another apparent message is that the distingtion between man and machine should be maintained.
Aparently the world of Bionics has a dark and seedy unworld. I actually think this is a facinating concept and one which could capture the imagintion and interest of the audience. Heroes made the evolution of mankind ’accessible’ to a whole group of fans by going down the genetic powers route..perhaps bionic Woman can do similar by going down the Bionic research route?
Is the site official? I’m not sure..it looks like one of those sites that ABC put together to help theme ‘Lost’s’ ’Lost Experience’ last summer. So I think NBC could well be giving us some material in this way over the next few weeks and months. It’s certainly a thumbs up for them if they are, as things like this will really help the show to connect with the fans and give the show another dimension. Ive long said that TV Networks should learn to better utilise the web - The hype surrounding Lost and Heroes was practically born on the Web and grew leg’s from the fans energy and early commitment to it. This sort of pre-show promoting can only be good. No word yet on whether it is an official site, but I’ll let you know as soon as I find out more.
In the meantime why not check the site. If you register you’ll be sent a ‘thankyou’ email and by the looks of it, you’ll receive stuff from the site over the course of the next few weeks. Needless to say, ive registered with them (costs nothing and takes 30 seconds) and i’ll keep you posted if I receive any interesting stuff.
