Electronic Publishing is a growing industry where only the electronic version of a book is produced by the publisher. Although some are produced simultaneously with its printed format, such can be postponed much later. The opposite, whereby electronic books are produced from previously existing hard-copy books are fairly common. It is usually done by document scanning which produces an image file that is to be converted into text format by an optical character recognition program. A book may also be produced by re-entering the text from a keyboard.
An electronic book can be converted to a printed book by print on demand. The distinction between print publishers and electronic publishers is fast getting blurred since both have ventured into each other’s area.
