Digital library appears to be the most current and widely accepted term to refer to a concept-electronic library. Different phrases such as virtual library and library without walls have been used without having a clear definition of what such phrases really meant. It should be noted that digital libraries are the focal point of many different areas of research and its constitution would depend largely on what research community it is describing.
There are many things on the Internet being called digital libraries which cannot be considered by librarians as such. In fact, many people consider the World Wide Web as a digital library since it is a gathering of thousands of documents as well as a good source of information. However, experts are quick to point that it is not so because it was not designed to support the organized publication and retrieval of information as libraries are.
