As I commented a few days ago – just who is behind the leaking of all of these Pilots? Whilst the Internet downloading of Pushing Daisies and Chuck don’t really concern me, the leaking of Bionic Woman does. Don’t get me wrong, i’m not concerned as in ‘worried’, rather i’m interested to know whether NBC and/or the Bionic Creators are behind it all (because it’s a very smart move if they are)? I mean, with all the shows that have had their Pilot’s leaked over this past week or so, it can’t be a coincidence, surely?
Mathew Ingram from globeandmail.com comments:
There’s been lots of attention paid lately to the appearance of illegal copies of un-aired TV pilots — in some cases, fairly high quality copies — on Internet download sites and “peer-to-peer” networks such as BitTorrent.
As the TVWeek story points out, there is a lot of debate about whether these leaks come primarily from studio executives or reviewers who receive advanced copies (which is often the case with movies), or whether they are deliberately “seeded” on BitTorrent networks and similar sites by TV networks trying to jump-start some buzz about their new shows. There’s some support for the latter theory: A pre-air copy of Lost that made its way onto the Internet three years ago was widely credited with helping to boost the buzz around the hit show.
My conclusion is that (in some cases at least) it must be the networks who release these copies to the Net. It’s not necessarily a bad thing and if the BW release was intentional then well done, I say, as it has created alot of buzz for the show and whatever people are saying about it, the important thing is that they are talking about it and the word is spreading. As i’ve said previously, I thought the BW pre-air version was ‘good’ and with some re-shooting and touching up, we could have a gem on our hands. Let’s keep the buzz flowing and hope that NBC put’s as much behind this show as they do with ‘Heroes’.
